About Ole Timey Meat Market
For founder Boyd Derrick, Ole Timey Meat Market is a dream come true, literally. Mr. Derrick first learned how to cut meat by standing on a crate by a butcher’s block at a corner store in downtown Columbia. Years later, while in the Army, he noticed a mess hall butcher’s ineptitude and quickly took over the task of butchering. Following his time in the Army, Mr. Derrick butchered for Swift Meat Packing and several restaurants in the downtown area.
While he was cutting meats for a living, he noticed that there was a demand for high-quality meats on a smaller, more personal scale. Mr. Derrick quickly opened up shop as a neighborhood butcher and put his skills to work for his friends and neighbors. He began to cut meat in a building behind his home after he returned from work. He recognized that people wanted a meat buying experience different than what grocery stores offered them. People wanted a shop with a wide variety of meats and cuts on display in sparkling white cases. People wanted personalized service and recommendations. Mr. Derrick shared their vision and wanted to give his customers exactly what they wanted. Their hopes and his dreams came to fruition as Ole Timey Meat Market was born.
